During excursions this 7-Day Cuyabeno Trip,  guests will be escorted at all times by a multilingual and naturalist guide at the Cuyabeno Reserve. Guests will be informed daily about the following day’s activities by their guide on the night, prior to dinner.

The guide may adjust the itinerary due to weather conditions or guest requirements.

On the first day of all our programs, guests will be assigned life vests and rain ponchos; rubber boots will be supplied on the following day. This gear will be the guest’s responsibility throughout their stay and must be returned to a Tapir Lodge representative on the last day of the program.

Please bring this gear with you when required and or advised by the guide. 5-Day Cuyabeno Tour| Amazon Jungle Tours by Tapir Lodge

Your rainforest adventure starts in Lago Agrio, where our driver will pick you up. A fascinating drive will take you to the northeastern part of the Sucumbios province, while we pass by beautiful rivers and small villages going deeper into the rainforest.

When you arrive at “El Puente” (the bridge), we will have lunch before we continue our way to Tapir lodge crossing down the river by canoe. This part of the trip will give you a taste of the flora and fauna that Cuyabeno has to offer. We will ensure that you and your luggage stay dry during the river ride.

After welcoming you to the Tapir Lodge, you will have time to get settled in your room. Then you will join us for a wonderful dinner, an opportunity to get acquainted with your travel companions.

After dinner, your guide will give you an introduction to the Tapir Lodge, the Cuyabeno Reserve and the fascinating experiences planned for your rainforest adventure

In the morning, after a delicious breakfast at the lodge, we will canoe upstream to explore the unique ecosystem of Laguna Grande. While navigating in the Igapo (flooded forest), you will see (Macrolobium),  ancient majestic mimosa trees,  which create the ideal habitat for epiphyte plants, such as bromeliads, orchids, ferns and cacti.

We will continue the adventure to “Terra Firme”, where we will take a hike for the rest of the morning. You will get an introduction to the rainforest ecology and see an amazing variety of birds such as woodpeckers, tanagers, macaws and toucans. Here you will have the opportunity to see a couple of monkey species, as well.

After a delicious lunch and time to relax at the lodge, we will navigate back to Laguna Grande to enjoy a wonderful sunset, surrounded by animals of the rainforest as bats, bugs and frogs; and if the weather permits you will have the opportunity to go swimming and enjoy the lagoon.

After a day of adventures, we will return to the lodge where dinner will be waiting. After dinner you can enjoy refreshments at our bar and join us for a quick night hike around the lodge to explore night wonders of the rain forest.

Today we will venture out on a camping expedition. While we navigate downstream throughout the morning, we can enjoy searching for the spectacular rain forest beauties( monkeys, birds, butterflies, sloth).

After lunch we will look for the perfect spot to set up camp. When settled we will hike in the forest for the rest of the afternoon, looking for diurnal mammals. We return to the camp for dinner and to spend the night in our tents, under the roof of the forest.

Today we will head out early to glide down stream while enjoying the morning soundtrack of the rain forest. After we return for breakfast, we continue the rest of the morning hiking in the forest. This part of the forest is home to herons, egrets, curassows, hawks, screaming pihas, oropendolas, fly catchers and king fishers, as well as various monkeys species!

There are many lodges in the Cuyabeno Reserve and now I have been to twice of them and I have to recommend a trip to the Tapir lodge. The atmosphere is great and you feel like you were at home. This is due to the furniture but especially due to the staff. You’ll get great food, nice talks and help anyway. The trip was very good organized and also we were the only tourists in th lodge at that time w had a great trip and never felt like we were the only ones. Moreover, our guide who showed us arround was very funny and friendly and exerted to show us as much animals as he could.
Altogether, go to Tapir Lodge! 🙂

My group of girlfriends and I were disappointed when the lodge we originally wanted had no reservations, but it turned out to the best thing that happened to us! We fell in love with Tapir Lodge. The accommodations are very comfortable, the chef makes incredibly delicious meals, and the staff works tirelessly to make your Amazon experience memorable and exciting. If you go, be sure to ask for Jose Miguel as your guide. He is a wealth of knowledge and will do anything to make sure you see and enjoy as much as you can to fully experience and learn about Cuyabeno! They all reminded us that we will always have brothers in the Amazon, and really made us feel like family.

It’s easy just to view the beautiful jungle scenery but for the heart and soul of the jungle Kurt, the convivial host and guide at Tapir, calls on his encyclopedic knowledge of nature and history to help his guests begin to experience a deeper Jungle experience….and in 3 languages!
A real adventure supported by comfortable clean rooms, excellent meals (Thanks Mario), nice “social” areas and a helpful friendly staff. Kurt has a genuine deep affection for the life of the jungle, both fauna and animals, and is so willing to share it with his guests.
Where others raced by, we dawdled and saw!! 8 types on monkey, sloths in trees, pink freshwater dolphins, a hawk hunting a spider monkey, birds galore, fruit bats resting on trees, Lemon flavoured ants (just ask Kurt!), making manioc, squeezing sugar cane, trees whose leaves shut when touched, glorious sunsets, etc.
BUT, most important of all, we will return home, to our cabin in the woods in Canada, with a real appreciation of the jungle and it’s life.
Thank you Kurt!
